Lancaster Flats - Originally the Chiodo Apartments in 1918

Opened in 1918 and originally named Chiodo Apartments, Lancaster Flats has recently been renovated for a more unique, modern feel. Located close to downtown Omaha, residents benefit from the convenience of being in the heart of the city while having access to large bedrooms and apartments sizes with walk-in closets - a luxury throughout the years. Despite its renovations, Lancaster Flats retains its original elegance and charm with stone and masonry work as well as Corinthian columns that were salvaged from the old Douglas County Courthouse demolished in 1912. In addition, four stained glass entries featuring the letter "C" are still present to commemorate its original name.

Builder Vincent Chiodo (1869 - 1949)

Vincent Chiodo was a remarkable man who left his mark on Omaha, Nebraska. He arrived from Italy in 1885 and worked as a tailor before becoming a real estate developer. He designed many apartment buildings in the area near 24th and Leavenworth, eventually making him Omaha's first Italian millionaire and vice consul in the city. His own house is now restored and located one block south of the Lancaster Flats apartment building that he built himself.
